With this role, as part of the Festival Bridge team, we are pursuing an exciting and unusual opportunity to build a collaboration between job centres and arts, culture, heritage, and education. Over five years, Ipswich Job Centres and Colchester & Ipswich Museums have been collaboratively facilitating access to cultural & creative opportunities for Job Centre Plus clients and their families, with events such as Cultural Takeovers, Everyday Creativity provision of arts materials to young families, and initiatives such as Headstart (which improves people’s mental health and wellbeing through creative arts and aims to support people into creative Kickstart / employment, volunteering, and traineeships).

This work is pioneering and bold in its ambition and potential to transform people’s lives. Throughout the work runs a commitment to enabling people to come together through creativity and companionship – building place-based relationships at a local level that will endure beyond the lifetime of Festival Bridge.

This project is part of Festival Bridge’s broader response to some of the current challenges at a time when unemployed people and their families are especially vulnerable. We see it as an unmissable opportunity to collaboratively deepen and broaden the work at scale, bringing together these worlds in the Festival Bridge region (Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Peterborough, and Suffolk), tackling barriers to cultural participation, unlocking the benefits of creativity for children & young people and their families (including some of the most vulnerable people in our society), and achieving a positive and holistic impact on their lives and communities. In that sense, social justice, and levelling-up in its most generous sense, is at the heart of our ambition.
