Thomas Gainsborough School was awarded Artsmark Platinum in Spring 2017, recognising the school’s commitment to providing an exceptional arts and cultural education to it’s students. They also hosted and performed as part of our Artsmark Celebration event.

“At the Thomas Gainsborough School, we have placed Arts and Cultural learning at the heart of our ethos and practice. This is seen through the breadth of lessons that take place in creative Arts subjects, our high quality Arts exhibition spaces and our commitment to linking our whole curriculum to creative practice and thinking. Our Artsmark journey has helped to focus and further strengthen our commitment to the Arts, and to demonstrate the impact that creative learning can have across the curriculum. As part of a multi academy trust, we have endeavored to take a leading role in in the delivery of high quality Arts and culture across our area of Suffolk, and to have a positive impact on other schools. Our location and the heritage of the area links us with the history of Thomas Gainsborough, one of Britain’s greatest painters, and we have strong links with Gainsborough’s house in Sudbury, conducting partnership activities, including joint exhibitions and workshops. Students from our school are exhibiting in Gainsborough’s house, while they have loaned us work from their collection. Our school is immensely proud to have achieved Platinum Artsmark status and look forward to the next steps in our Arts development.” Ed Clark, Head of Art and Samuel Ward Trust subject adviser for Art and Design
