Between Tiny Cities រវាងទីក្រុងតូច

TUESDAY 24 MAY, 7:30PM, WEDNESDAY 25 MAY, 2:30PM & 7:30PM

This is a past event which has now ended.

In Between Tiny Cities រវាងទីក្រុងតូច, dancers Erak Mith, from Phnom Penh Cambodia, and Aaron Lim, from Darwin Australia, use the rituals, movement styles and language of their shared hip-hop culture to reveal the dramatically different worlds that surround them and uncover the choreographic links that unite them.

Choreographed by internationally-renowned Sydney hip-hop dance artist Nick Power and accompanied by the beats and sound design of Jack Prest, the work blends the raw, wild energy of b*boy battles with skilful improvisation and choreography, offering a cross-cultural perspective on style, culture and locality.

The project is the result of a four-year dance exchange between Darwin’s D*City Rockers and Cambodia’s Tiny Toones youth program. The two crews have travelled, trained, battled and performed together, and Between Tiny Cities រវាងទីក្រុងតូច, is the culmination of that exchange.

Since then, they’ve toured to more than 20 destinations, around Australia from Sydney Opera House to remote outback Indigenous communities, to festivals throughout Asia and Europe.

“Between Tiny Cities is truly a marvel of sleek, vivid and intense choreography intertwined with the improvisation and urban beats of break dancing to explore the universal story between two performers through dance. Raw, energetic, compulsive, tenacious and dramatic. Highly recommended.” Lia Cocks, Theatre Travels, March 2020

Festival Futures – Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May festival and our arts education work, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk.

This year we launch a giving campaign, Festival Futures, to help ensure we continue this work for future generations.

2022’s campaign focuses on ‘Tomorrow’s World’ – the participants, audiences and artists of the future. We aim to raise £20,000 towards our Take Part: Schools programme and towards a range of programming at 2022’s Festival that provides participation and showcase opportunities for young people and early-career artists.  We believe that participation in the arts can increase confidence, creativity and academic results and that by creating performance and commissioning opportunities for the next generation of artists, we are ensuring the future of Norfolk & Norwich Festival. We need your support.
