Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2020 has been cancelled

It is with regret that we have taken the very difficult but ultimately inevitable decision to cancel the 2020 Norfolk & Norwich Festival.

With the rapidly escalating health-crisis and with the safety of our audiences, staff and artists at heart, we have taken the decision that it is impossible for us to deliver the Festival this May.

If you have booked a ticket for the Festival, you do not need to do anything. You are entitled to a refund and we will be in touch soon. Please bear with us during this difficult time. If you have the capacity to make a donation of part or all of your ticket value, we would be extremely grateful – it would help ensure we’re well-placed to support artists and be able to present future Festivals.

Welcome to Radio Local – a brand new radio station, broadcasting live, straight from your high street – for one day only. Hosted by deadpan duo Hunt & Darton, Radio Local is exactly that: local. It’s built with, by and for local people, telling your stories, sharing your news, playing your jingles. Taking over the airwaves of Future Radio for an epic 24 hours of radio magic. Celebrating voices from across Norfolk and Norwich direct from Gentlemans Walk and, in the lead up, building radio with the surrounding towns of Great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn and Diss.

This show celebrates everything about what it means to be local. We love the local chippy that asks how your week’s been, pubs and cafés that are surrogate families and extensions of the home, people taking pride in where they live, doing things for the community and noticing when someone is ill. This is hyper-local radio. The food review is from nearby cafés, jingles are generated live in our shed, the issues we discuss are collected from a public chalk board. The news is someone’s news, not the mainstream news, and we re-enact a soap opera written over the day on a typewriter set up for all to use. Come and make radio with us!

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
