Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2020 has been cancelled
It is with regret that we have taken the very difficult but ultimately inevitable decision to cancel the 2020 Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
With the rapidly escalating health-crisis and with the safety of our audiences, staff and artists at heart, we have taken the decision that it is impossible for us to deliver the Festival this May.
If you have booked a ticket for the Festival, you do not need to do anything. You are entitled to a refund and we will be in touch soon. Please bear with us during this difficult time. If you have the capacity to make a donation of part or all of your ticket value, we would be extremely grateful – it would help ensure we’re well-placed to support artists and be able to present future Festivals.
Robert Macfarlane is creating a special live collaboration especially for the Norfolk & Norwich Festival with musician and producer Cosmo Sheldrake. They’ve inspired each other for ages, but this is their first time working together on stage. Robert Macfarlane has written thrilling books about landscape, nature and people, including Underland, The Old Ways and Lost Words, and music and rhythm pulses through his writing. Cosmo Sheldrake is a songwriter with a passion for ecology and the nature of place, who’s reached out to huge audiences on new media like Tik Tok while working with Matthew Herbert, Johnny Flynn, Sam Lee and many more.
Robert Macfarlane says of the show: “We’re going to take the audience on a journey from the summits of mountains, down over the evening’s course into the dark, resonant chambers of the underworld. Along the way, we’ll pass from peaks to forests, valleys, islands, and coastlines, plunging below the surface into the root-world of trees and soil, down into the deep-sunk core of the Earth itself. It’ll be a continuous performance with Cosmo and I responding to each other, structured by readings from my work for which Cos will make a live sound-palette of nature-recordings and music“
