Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2020 has been cancelled

It is with regret that we have taken the very difficult but ultimately inevitable decision to cancel the 2020 Norfolk & Norwich Festival.

With the rapidly escalating health-crisis and with the safety of our audiences, staff and artists at heart, we have taken the decision that it is impossible for us to deliver the Festival this May.

If you have booked a ticket for the Festival, you do not need to do anything. You are entitled to a refund and we will be in touch soon. Please bear with us during this difficult time. If you have the capacity to make a donation of part or all of your ticket value, we would be extremely grateful – it would help ensure we’re well-placed to support artists and be able to present future Festivals.

Shingai,  legendary front woman and bassist of platinum-selling band The Noisettes ignites a new musical chapter with her “Ancient Futures” EP. The niece of Zimbabwean musical titan Thomas Mapfumo, the new project explores her relationship to her African roots while drawing on pop, soul, jazz and electronics to create a truly original sound.

In the words of Afropunk, ‘Ancient Futures is a sonic odyssey that serves as the culmination of a musical journey she began more than a decade ago.  It is the musical offering of an artist of the African diaspora who has walked the walk of mainstream viability without letting go of her roots. Shingai is a London-raised Bantu child, with nothing more to prove to the white establishment who box in artists with an unapologetic African flair.’

Described as a ‘living, breathing, manifestation of Rock & Roll’ (Rolling Stone), she has collaborated with artists as diverse as Dizzee Rascal, Annie Lennox, Dennis Ferrer and Tony Allen, rocking festivals across the world with her infectious energy and unique style.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
