The Family Sex Show

Tuesday 24 May, 4.30pm–Friday 27 May, 1.30pm

The Garage

Tickets: £7.50 - £15.00

The decision has been taken to cancel the performances of ThisEgg’s The Family Sex Show at The Garage, as part of Norfolk & Norwich Festival.

The Family Sex Show is a theatre show which opens up conversations around relationships offering safe and positive learning to children, young people and guardians about bodies and relationships, advised by safeguarding and educational specialists. Information regarding the content of the show was made available to bookers coming to see the production.

In recent days there has been unacceptable threat and abuse directed at both the company and the venues hosting the tour by a small minority, and in order to ensure the safety of the performers, staff and audiences, the show will no longer play at this time at The Garage, as part of Norfolk & Norwich Festival. We continue to believe in both the intention and processes in creating this show.

A fun and silly performance about the painfully AWKWARD subject of sex, exploring names and functions, boundaries, consent, pleasure, queerness, sex, gender and relationships. Using real life bodies, personal stories, songs and movement, The Family Sex Show puts the good stuff at the forefront of conversation and imagines a future where there is no shame; but a celebration of difference, equality and liberation.

ThisEgg invites you to bring your parents, bring your children, friends, lovers and bring your whole self. Made in consultation with the School of Sexuality Education, this is a show for everyone.

‘When sex education is boiled down to its core’, she says, it’s about ‘people, and difference, and equality. It all starts with how we look at each other, and how we respect each other.’ The need and desire for discussion are far greater than any opposition to it. ‘If we don’t talk about these things,’ she says, ‘who are we protecting?’

ThisEgg’s Josie Dale-Jones talking to The Guardian

Young people under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to attend this performance.

ThisEgg makes theatre that plays with theatrical form, celebrating the here and now of the live event. Responding to the world we are living in, ThisEgg invites audiences to ask big questions about the world we live in, and is firmly rooted in the hope that theatre can be a motivational force for social change.

Praise for dressed.

Festival Futures – Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May festival and our arts education work, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk.

This year we launch a giving campaign, Festival Futures, to help ensure we continue this work for future generations.

2022’s campaign focuses on ‘Tomorrow’s World’ – the participants, audiences and artists of the future. We aim to raise £20,000 towards our Take Part: Schools programme and towards a range of programming at 2022’s Festival that provides participation and showcase opportunities for young people and early-career artists.  We believe that participation in the arts can increase confidence, creativity and academic results and that by creating performance and commissioning opportunities for the next generation of artists, we are ensuring the future of Norfolk & Norwich Festival. We need your support.
