Peggy Seeger & Calum MacColl

This is a past event which has now ended.

The charismatic Peggy Seeger – singer, songwriter, feminist, icon, Ewan MacColl’s partner and muse – is the undisputed queen of folk and political song.

A multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, 5-string banjo, autoharp, English concertina and Appalachian dulcimer), she is lauded for her feminist and political songs. She has made 25 solo recordings and participated in over a hundred more.

As Ewan MacColl’s partner and muse, she was the inspiration for MacColl’s classic The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (the title of her much-praised recent memoir) yet this is a woman who has consistently followed her own path with passion and vigour.

Performing with her son Calum MacColl, this is a gloriously intimate up-close performance by two world class musicians.  Expect to hear some of Peggy’s new songs from her hugely successful ‘First Farewell’ album, some old favourites, a few surprises, and plenty of relaxed family banter.

“Peggy Seeger may be folk royalty … but there’s still plenty of the mischievous reprobate – not to mention the untamed rebel – about her.” The Guardian

“Glorious – Peggy is a commanding presence.” – The Times

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
