A New Book
A four day music festival, as part of a run of triennial events.
The Annals of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival were published in 1896 by Jarrold; the book was a history of the Triennial Festival from 1824 until the present day and listed all the music performed with other details taken from the committee minute books. A fascinating read, it reflects the changing fortunes and social attitudes of the Festival over time.
The festival was once again graced by the presence of members of the royal family in 1896, adding to the prestige and practically guaranteeing a good turnout with the city in celebratory mood.
