Matthew Herbert and Momoko Gill’s soulful new album, Clay, is a sonically-adventurous triumph, with Gill’s smoky voice flitting sinuously through their fleet-footed arrangements. Both Gill & Herbert shared production duties throughout the record, and it’s clear theirs is a unique and fascinating musical chemistry. It often feels as if they’ve been playing together all their lives.
