Donations At The Door

A fundraising sermon with musical performances, to raise money for the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

This year, a change was made to how people were asked to contribute to the hospital funds.

Donations were now taken at the door on entrance to the sermon, rather than during or afterwards as had been the case in the earlier years, perhaps not resulting in as much as hoped.

Under the new scheme, the more generous the donation, the better seat you received!

Also taking place in Norwich this year:
Norwich resident Sarah Ann Glover was born. She was a teacher who invented the “Norwich sol-fa” system, which popularised the ‘do re mi’ style of learning to sing. This was a result of her efforts to develop a simplified system of musical notation. By 1827, she had developed a complete method of musical notation that she was using while teaching at a girls’ school she had founded.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
