Books For Sale
A fundraising sermon with musical performances, to raise money for the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.
For the first time, printed books of the performances were sold at the annual service for 6d, with all the profit going towards the hospital funds.
James Woodforde, a parson and diarist whose writing tells us much about country life at the time, attended the annual sermon. Woodforde wrote of the large crowd gathered at the Cathedral and getting good seats to take in the experience – “All together it was not only delightful but seemed heavenly and gave us ideas of divine music”.
