1830
A Leaky Roof
A four day music festival, as part of a run of triennial events.
The 1830 Festival was another financial and artistic triumph, although St Andrew’s Hall was becoming increasingly unsuitable as a venue – a leaky roof meant that the cellist Robert Lindley had to perform whilst a friend held an umbrella over his head!
Following the festival, other charities applied for a slice of the profits. It was agreed that in future years the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital would get the majority of proceeds, with the rest being shared amongst other worthy causes, including medical charities in Yarmouth and Kings Lynn, areas where some of the festival’s benefactors resided.
