1872
A Special License For The Maids Head
A five day music festival, as part of a run of triennial events.
The Maid’s Head hotel obtained a special licence to stay open until 1am to serve alcohol for guests who had attended the Festival.
A rare premiere of a piece composed by a woman composer took place at the 1872 Festival – Alice Mary Smith’s Clarinet Concerto – with Henry Lazarus taking the solo part.
