The Prince And Princess Of Wales Attend

A four day music festival, as part of a run of triennial events.

Royalty visited the Festival again courtesy of the Prince and Princess of Wales. The Festival was said to be one of the very finest to be held in the country that year including a new oratorio called The Rose of Sharon by Alexander Mackenzie. The work was a huge success, but Mackenzie had cut it fine when it came to producing the work – on the day, many of the musician’s parts were handwritten out by Fanny Mottram, the composer’s host in the city!
