Vernon Handley's Only Year As Director
A ten day music festival, as part of a run of triennial events.
Leading conductor and proponent of British music Vernon Handley was appointed artistic director for just one festival, although he would continue as a vice-patron. Handley staged a concert which saw a return to the days of the ‘festival orchestra’ specially assembled from local musicians; they were conducted by Julian Webb of UEA Music Department.
Behind the scenes, talks were taking place to make the move to an annual event.
