The Fourth Largest Arts Festival

At the end of a Festival which saw the likes of John Cale, Michael Nyman, and Ian McEwan and bringing a contribution of £9.2m to the local economy, the Norfolk and Norwich Festival lay claim to be the fourth largest arts festival in the country.

Artistic Director Jonathon Holloway says in the Festival Programme:

“The arts are ideally placed to guide us through periods of change.”

This year saw the world premiere of Music For Seven Ice Cream Vans by composer Dan Jones, co-commissioned by Norfolk & Norwich Festival. This is how it is described in the Festival programme:

“In this amazing event, seven ice-cream vans will weave spellbinding harmonies across an entire suburb at a time, calling out to one another and the people of Norwich through dusk and into the night….. This world première starts in Norwich’s Mile Cross.”

Click here to hear Dan Jones speaking about it on BBC Radio 4 (the two relevant segments begin at 5:56, and then again from 12:46).

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
