Do family ties make us act with more care or blind us to the facts? Albatross takes us to the very boundaries of love in the age of climate catastrophe.

‘Your generation. You owe us a future. A chance at one at least.’

Alice, a glaciologist, returns from Antarctica – back home to her daughter Alba and her mother Eve. There’s been a flood, a new romance and now a strange gift. It’s 1.30am. Alba sleeps. Eve has never been more awake. And Alice? Maybe those cracks she discovered in the Antarctic ice have followed her home. And maybe they’re calling her to go back…

Award-winning Martha Loader is one of the finest young playwrights working in Britain today. In Albatross she asks us what we’re willing to sacrifice for a better future. It is explosive, tender, often hilarious. And it reveals the human heart to be more vulnerable than we hope but stronger than we believe.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
