Atemporal 360 is an immersive live cinema performance created by pioneering arts studio The Light Surgeons in memory of the British novelist, painter, and poet John Berger. It is a poetic audio-visual concert that reflects on Berger’s thoughts and philosophies on time and memory. Specially adapted for the 360º immersive space at IVSL. The performance unites original surround-sound music, documentary film, and video art created by collaborating media artists Tim Cowie and Christopher Thomas Allen.

The Light Surgeons’ performance will be preceded by short works-in-progress screenings from three Norwich University of the Arts-affiliated artists, focusing on the landscapes of East Anglia:

Exploring the rise and decline of oil and gas exploration in the North Sea, Meitao Qu will present a work-in-progress created using Unreal Engine that reimagines the architecture of rigs and platforms. It considers how these changing landscapes and structures inform the life of local communities along the Norfolk Coast.

Kate Flurrie will present 360º film tests of underwater habitats as part of research exploring the Cromer Shoal Chalk Beds, one of the most ecologically significant Marine Protected Areas for chalk habitats in Europe. Kate is developing an immersive film exploring how through creative technologies, we can better understand fragile ecosystems.

Sea States is a new multi-screen video installation by Louis Nixon, consisting of 24 CCTV monitors on stands.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
