Cowboy Junkies have carved a singular path through musical history – slow, deliberate, and deeply beautiful. Formed in Toronto in the mid-1980s, their haunting blend of blues, country and folk sat in contrast of the glitz and gaud of popular music at the time. Brothers Michael and Peter Timmins, together with Alan Anton and Jeff Bird, crafted atmospheric soundscapes against which Margo Timmins’ unmistakeable voice could soar, pitch, and roll.

Now making their first visit to Norwich, the band brings a concert spanning forty years of music-making, from their breakthrough album The Trinity Session to their acclaimed recent release Such Ferocious Beauty. Expect the Junkies’ tracks you know and love, alongside a selection of covers they’ve made entirely their own, “reinterpretations” that transform the familiar into something fresh and moving.

On stage, Cowboy Junkies invite audiences into a world of quiet power and emotional weight. Their performances are mesmerising journeys through shadow and light: Lou Reed meets Neil Young filtered through their own slow-burn intensity. Whether whisper-soft or thunderously raw, every note feels earned, every silence charged with meaning.

Join us for an evening of luminous musicianship and timeless songs, as one of Canada’s most distinctive and celebrated bands steps onto a Norwich stage for the first time.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
