Creative Custodians – Arts organisations & the heritage buildings of Norwich
A local architect discusses the historic Norwich buildings being cared for and opened to the public by arts organisations.
In the late 20th century a regeneration trust, HEART, was strategising futures for Norwich’s historic public buildings, from it’s base in Norwich Guildhall. Today this important landmark building is home to the Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
The key priority for keeping a building in good repair is maintaining it’s use and relevance; over twenty arts and cultural organisations are tenants in the historic civic buildings and deconsecrated churches in our city centre. They are the caretakers for the buildings they inhabit; securing vital funding for maintenance and redevelopment.
Hannah Wooller from Matter of Place Architects tells the stories of the recent and planned redevelopment of some of Norwich’s key cultural assets.
