In the atmospheric setting of England’s largest and most elaborate provincial medieval city hall, wonderful tales will be woven about Norwich’s dark past. The Norfolk Folklore Society and performer Laura Cannell have joined forces to create a magical night filled with tales of ghosts and witchcraft, secret tunnels and dreadful murders linked to this distinctive building in the heart of Norwich. With live accompaniment from musician Laura, the Norfolk & Norwich Festival Artist in Residence, Siofra Connor and Stacia Briggs from the Norfolk Folklore Society will present their take on a series of stories in the style of their internationally-renowned podcast.

Laura Cannell is a British composer and improvising recorder player and violinist. Her work is known for combining the influences of early music, folk and experimental music and has been frequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 6Music, NTS Radio and internationally. Following the release of her latest solo album Midwinter Processionals in December 2023 Laura has embarked on a year-long series exploring a year in Lore, composing and producing new music exploring real and imagined. The Norfolk Folklore Society, formerly Weird Norfolk, have created a friendly community of folklore lovers, stone spotters, paranormal investigators, cryptozoologists, ufologists, magic users and curious souls. Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
