How The FLOCK Do I Create and Develop Work?
Tuesday 14 October, 6.30pm
Online
If you have artistic practice or lots of creative idea, but are unsure of what to do next. This session can help.
Throughout this session you’ll learn about how to both create ideas and develop them into effective plans and projects.
You’ll hear from Jack Wilkin about their portfolio of work and how they have crafted their practices in to a range of work, including community projects.
Gloria / Jack Wilkin
Jack’s practice is a combination of performance, youth work and facilitation. Since 2021 they’ve been finding ways to mash these elements together, exploring how play and joy can be a tool for resistance, and that an experience with a couple of people is as powerful as an experience with a whole crowd.
One result has been the creation of Gloria, a camp, sequin wielding persona who finds power in laughter and holding safer spaces for LGBTQIA+ people. From hosting scratch nights to film screenings, Gloria has been able to develop their community and socially engaged practice.
Jack’s performance work explores issues both within and facing LGBTQIA+ communities, using a mixture of autobiographical experiences, breaking the 4th wall, campness, and comedy in solo devised shows. Currently, they’re curious about the power of dancefloors, the different sanctuaries these spaces provide, and how they often blur the lines of communities and artforms.
