Bach Goldberg Variations
Renegade and rebel, harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani gives new character to an old instrument that is all too often viewed as archaic and twee. Acclaimed for his performances of the music of Bach, Mahan will take audiences on an arresting journey through Bach’s epic Goldberg Variations, giving fresh and meaningful voice to this well-travelled score.
Giving context to Bach’s remarkable Goldberg Variations are two of the composer’s earlier works: Toccata in E minor, a lesser-heard piece from his earliest period, and Partita V in G major, a light, buoyant work which will be all the more joyous in the hands of Mahan Esfahani.
