Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2020 has been cancelled

It is with regret that we have taken the very difficult but ultimately inevitable decision to cancel the 2020 Norfolk & Norwich Festival.

With the rapidly escalating health-crisis and with the safety of our audiences, staff and artists at heart, we have taken the decision that it is impossible for us to deliver the Festival this May.

If you have booked a ticket for the Festival, you do not need to do anything. You are entitled to a refund and we will be in touch soon. Please bear with us during this difficult time. If you have the capacity to make a donation of part or all of your ticket value, we would be extremely grateful – it would help ensure we’re well-placed to support artists and be able to present future Festivals.

Mariam Batsashvili set the 2018 and 2019 Festivals alight with her memorable performances of Liszt, Chopin, Schubert and Mozart. She makes a welcome return to the Festival for this exuberantly colourful programme. Her passion for Liszt once again takes centre stage, with performances of both his virtuosic tour-de-force, the Rhapsodie espagnole, and his arrangement of Chopin’s Polish Songs, as well as music by Mozart and Ravel. The programme concludes with a solo piano scoring of Tchaikovsky’s iconic Nutcracker Suite by pianist Mikhail Pletnev.

In 2014, Mariam Batshashvili became the first female musician to win the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition.  An ECHO Rising Star and a BBC New Generation Artist, she is recognised as one of the most exciting young pianists of her generation and has recently released her first CD on Warner Classics and made her BBC Proms debut.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
