Nightweave
Joseph Havlat, Deni Teo & Benjamin Mellefont
Tuesday 20 May, 7.30pm
Octagon Chapel
Tickets: £10.00 - £22.00
A focus on the music of Australian composer Lisa Illean, featuring the UK premiere of ever-weaver for cello and piano, as well as her février for clarinet trio.
Spiderwebs of sound that drift and curl or glow like cracks of muted light between suspended chords are presented against a backdrop of music evoking the night – both Max Bruch’s Eight pieces and Bent Sørensen’s Nocturnes echo Schumann in their intimacy and characterisation, with soft songs and moonlit dances. These are prefaced by a free arrangement by Márton Illés of renaissance composer John Bull’s In nomine (VI).
This programme is brought to life by three of the finest chamber musicians working in the UK, pianist Joseph Havlat, cellist Deni Teo and clarinettist Benjamin Mellefont.
