Tickets: £10.00 - £18.00

Sam Braysher, ‘whose warm tone and consonant and inquisitive approach to harmony is attracting growing attention on the British jazz scene’ (All About Jazz), is a London-based alto saxophonist who grew up in Dereham, Norfolk.

He is joined by award-winning Sara Dowling. Recently voted ‘Best Vocalist’ in the British Jazz Awards, Sara is one of Europe’s leading jazz singers, with UK Jazz News noting ‘the fabulous fearlessness with which she approaches the act of singing… There really is something different, special and fresh about her.’

Fresh from sold out shows at Ronnie Scott’s and the London Jazz Festival, the band is completed by an all-star rhythm section: virtuosic Hungarian pianist Matyas Gayer, ultra-swinging drummer Steve Brown, and in-demand Italian bassist Dario di Lecce.

Sam’s latest album explores the work of Kurt Weill, a fascinating composer who lies at the intersection of European classical music, jazz, opera and American musical theatre. Expect to hear swinging arrangements of classic songs such as My Ship and Speak Low, in addition to hidden gems from the Weill catalogue, and adjacent composers from the Great American Songbook.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
