Storytelling in Shadowlight

As the nights draw in, this session celebrates the dark and the wonder it can create. From oral histories told around fire pits to ghost stories in torch light, we’ll explore the art of storytelling in shadow light. Hosted by Zannie Fraser, a talented regional theatre maker who specialises in shadow and puppetry, come and learn about the craft of shadow work on stage. You’ll explore East Anglian folklore, and experiment with different methods of shadow puppetry, from small to large scales, across various technologies. 

This afternoon of play will inspire and educate you on a new medium to introduce to your stage craft and performance work, or to your visual art exhibitions and digital work in photography and film. All socially engaged artists looking to develop their practice and connect with creative peers are welcome.  

Artist Bio

Zannie Fraser is a theatre maker and shadow puppeteer with over 25 years of experience working in theatre. She trained in performance and movement in Paris with Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux as well as studying with Fabrizio Montecchi of Gioco Vita. She has worked in theatre, mask and puppet companies including; Theatre sans Frontieres, Trestle Theatre, Little Angel Theatre and Indefinite Articles. 

With her company, Luminous Tales, she creates and performs small scale shows for family audiences involving shadow play, puppetry, pop-up books and paper theatre. She tours her work extensively to theatres, festivals, rural touring venues and schools across the UK and abroad.
