Music, comedy, theatre, dance… when people think of jobs in the arts, they usually think of performers. But an estimated 70% of jobs in the sector are behind the scenes: technical, operational, promotional, administrative. These roles are appealing, if lesser known, amongst young creatives.

This session, led by Will Fincher, explores the range of roles and responsibilities behind delivering live events, from programming and pitching talent to handling legal and health and safety requirements. Whether you’re a young person interested in producing or programming, or a performer who wants to know more about producing your own work, this session is for you.

Artist Bio

Before joining UEA SU in 2020, Will held senior roles at some of the UK’s most iconic entertainment venues, including Head of Commercial Services at Wilton’s Music Hall, Operations Manager at Troxy, and Visitor Operations Manager at the Roundhouse, alongside work with organisations including the RSC, Apple Music and Secret Cinema. Combined with his current stewardship of the SU’s bars, entertainment spaces, and The Adrian Flux Waterfront, Will brings a wide range of experience producing, operating and promoting live events.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
