Wild The World: Nature Writing
Friday 22 May, 10.30am
National Centre for Writing, Dragon Hall
Tickets: £30.00 - £40.00
Step beyond your doorstep and into the beauty of the natural world around you. James Canton, author of Renaturing: Small Ways to Wild the World, invites you to explore the core techniques of nature writing through conversation, writing, and reflection.
No prior writing experience is required — just a desire to delve into the wild that surrounds us.
During this workshop, you will:
- Evolve your close observation and description skills
- Appreciate the variety of life around you
- Write on the wildness that we live with and our place in that wild world
James Canton is Director of Wild Writing at the University of Essex. His books include The Oak Papers (2020) – Radio 4’s Book of the Week – which explores some of the ties between humans and oaks since prehistory, meditating on our need to connect with the natural world. His recently published book, Renaturing: Small Ways to Wild the World (2025) investigates ways of democratising rewilding, how we can all be involved in nature restoration.
