Jyoti will guide you through writing exercises, exploration of theory, and close analysis of contemporary fiction, to explore:
- How to create compelling and authentic characters within a family novel
- How to choose the right perspective for your story
- How complex family dynamics can be used to drive plot

Jyoti Patel is an award-winning novelist and recipient of the 2021 #Merky Books New Writers’ Prize. Her debut, The Things That We Lost, was named one of The Observer’s 10 Best New Novels of 2023 and was a finalist for the Eastern Eye Arts Culture & Theatre Awards. Jyoti was also shortlisted for the 2022 Bristol Short Story Prize and is a graduate of the University of East Anglia’s Prose Fiction MA.
