Creative Places

Place-based work

Place-making is crucial to the Festival Connect & Create programme and underpins the Creative Places strand. Working across the region, we instigate and support creative projects in collaboration with artists, communities and partners in a year-round, place-based approach. Each project brings communities into closer contact with creativity and helps make our part of the world a better place to live, work and play.

We deliver this work in many ways. We support and fund residencies for artists to develop projects within local communities, collaborate with local partners to forge innovative projects that meet our shared goals, and produce creative opportunities for local people through national touring projects.

A new research and development project by artist and curator Robin Deacon, exploring the activity of railway modelling as an artform as well as a hobby.

go gently into the garden of [im]possible dreams

An UNLIMITED partnership project by Joanna Holland exploring intersections between chronic illness, nature and possibility.

Fenland Creatives

Fenland-bred dancer and choreographer, Dan Canham, is creating films with young people from Fenland in a three year project.

Your Town, My Town, Our Town

A three-year, artist-led youth engagement project in Swaffham. It will support and enable young people to help shape their towns future through a programme of activities that bring their voice to the fore.

Do It Together

Do It Together (DIT) is a peer-to-peer professional development programme that enables artists to explore ideas, aesthetics and sociopolitical realities together.

Past Projects

Sea Like A Mirror

Sea Like a Mirror was an ambitious national partnership programme, commissioned to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Crossing the Line

Director Tia Fisher, in partnership with St George’s Theatre, worked with young people from Great Yarmouth to create a performance piece highlighting the dangers posed by County Lines.

A Handful of Time

Participants created small artworks or ‘artefacts’ with locally sourced clay; each artefact capturing a moment in time and bearing the unique lines and contours of their maker’s hands.

Natural Behaviour

Dance theatre company Thick & Tight worked with Queer Birders Norfolk as part of their research for a new piece of work, Natural Behaviour.

Kinship

Writer Daisy Henwood collaborated with musician Milly Kirby to explore how young people and their communities relate to nature.

On Our Doorsteps

A community participation project – part of a nationwide programme exploring the relationship between urban communities and the natural spaces around us.

Great Postcards from Great Yarmouth

Artist Matthew Harrison, in partnership with Freshly Greated, led workshops to create postcard cutouts celebrating Great Yarmouth’s hidden gems.
