Award winning and internationally recognised choreographer and filmmaker Dan Canham has been working with Norfolk & Norwich Festival on a 3-year youth dance project in the Fens, Fenland Creatives.

The first two years of the project have resulted in the creation of five films exploring young people’s relationship to dance and creativity. We’re excited for two of these films to have their Fenland premiere hosted by project partner, 20Twenty Productions.

Fenland Elegy is the result of a collaboration between Dan and Katie Boag and Ash Goosey – two Krump dancers based in Ely. In the film, the dancers explore the landscape, climate grief and rituals through the lens of being a young person in the Fens.

Four Portraits from an Edgeland is an intimate portrayal of young people’s experience of living in the Fens, and how creativity and dance is essential to their lives.

Festival Connect & Create – celebrating the voices of children, young people and their communities.

Arts make life better

Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings tens of thousands of people together in celebration – it has been doing this for over 250 years. Through our May Festival and our year-round arts education work, focusing on children and young people, we lead and support celebration, creativity and curiosity in communities across Norfolk and the region.

This year we begin an exciting new initiative, Festival Connect & Create that will bring creative opportunities to those schools and communities with least provision. Creativity transforms people’s lives. It builds cohesive communities, develops vital skills and supports health and wellbeing. We want more people to have access to creative opportunities.

Please consider donating to support and develop this work. With your help we can increase access to the life changing power of the arts.
