2026
Wind In The Willows is a contemporary retelling of the eponymous novel by writer Kenneth Grahame. Adapted by James McDermott, the project takes the form of a promenade performance in the grounds of Sheringham Hall, Sheringham, in May 2026. Audiences follow the action through the landscape, encountering familiar characters and episodes from Grahame’s classic story reimagined for a contemporary audience.
The production is shaped through a programme of intergenerational community workshops in Sheringham, which inform the creative development of the performance and encourage local people to contribute their ideas, experiences, and perspectives. A cast of local participants forms a community ensemble, performing alongside professional actors who take on the four lead roles. By bringing together community members of different ages and backgrounds, the project celebrates local creativity, fosters new connections, and creates a shared theatrical experience that is rooted in place while remaining accessible to audiences of all generations.
Wind In The Willows, written by James McDermott. Commissioned by Sheringham Little Theatre. Supported and presented by Norfolk & Norwich Festival. Delivered with and by the community of Sheringham.
